RBT Exam exam requirements & cost

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential is the BACB's entry-level certification for people who deliver behavior-analytic services under the close, ongoing supervision of a BACB-certified professional. To be certified you complete a 40-hour training, pass a background check, complete the Initial Competency Assessment, submit your application with the BACB (processing fee US$65 for applications on or after January 1, 2026) and pass the RBT examination, which costs US$45 through Pearson VUE. The exam has 85 multiple-choice questions, 75 scored and 10 unscored, and a 90-minute limit. It follows the RBT Test Content Outline (3rd edition): Data Collection and Graphing 17%, Behavior Assessment 11%, Behavior Acquisition 25%, Behavior Reduction 19%, Documentation and Reporting 13% and Ethics 15%. BACB's pass-rate page shows that 79% of first-time test takers pass, while retakers pass at 46%. This portal helps you prepare for the written exam; it does not replace the 40-hour training or the Initial Competency Assessment.
