CSFA exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) credential is administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) — not to be confused with the similarly-named CSA credential from a different body. Eligibility requires graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited surgical first assistant program, verified by an official diploma, transcript, or program-director letter, or current/prior CSFA status for retake candidates. The application and exam fee is $240 for AST members and $350 for non-members, which includes a non-refundable $60 processing fee. The exam itself consists of 175 multiple-choice questions (150 scored, 25 unscored pretest items) administered in a 4-hour session, with up to three retest attempts allowed per calendar year.
Real pass rate, retake policy, scoring, and a study timeline for CSFA — free, no purchase required.
