The Registered Dietitian (RD), also written Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), credential is awarded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) after you pass its registration examination for dietitians. CDR's eligibility page lists the key requirements: a minimum of a graduate degree from a USDE-recognised accredited institution (or an equivalent foreign degree), coursework from an ACEND-accredited program (a Didactic Program in Dietetics, Coordinated Program or Graduate Program), and supervised practice from an ACEND-accredited program (a Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program, Graduate Program or a doctorate Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway). The routes are DPD plus Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program, Graduate Program and the doctorate ISPP, with separate routes for foreign degrees and reciprocity. Once CDR approves your eligibility you receive an Authorization to Test email from Pearson VUE, normally within a week, and authorisation lasts one year at a time. CDR's handbook sets the examination fee at $250, paid by credit card to Pearson VUE when you book; the optional test bundle costs $350 in total, for the first attempt plus a voucher for a retake at a discounted $100. The exam is offered year-round at more than 250 Pearson VUE test centers, appointments must be made at least 48 hours ahead, and a refund is available only if you cancel online at least 48 hours before the appointment.
