NCC's Certified Obstetric Emergencies (C-OBE) subspecialty exam requires current, active, unencumbered licensure in the U.S. or Canada as a physician (MD/DO), registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse (NP, CNS, CRNA, or CNM), certified midwife, physician assistant, or paramedic, verified by uploading proof of current licensure. No prior practice experience is mandated, though NCC recommends candidates have expertise in obstetrical and medical emergencies during pregnancy and postpartum before attempting the exam. The total exam fee is $210, which includes a non-refundable $50 application fee. The exam consists of 125 multiple-choice questions, of which 100 are scored and 25 are unscored items used to gather statistical data for future exams, administered over a 2-hour time limit at a physical test center only (no live remote proctoring option for this exam).
