The IBHRE Allied Professional Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) exam requires candidates to demonstrate active involvement in heart rhythm management, met through one of two pathways: completion of a formal, comprehensive training program in cardiac pacing and/or electrophysiology providing a minimum of 6 months of didactic training and 6 months of field exposure, or successful completion of the Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) examination through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (or an equivalent exam) plus a minimum of 12 months of clinical experience in cardiac pacing and/or electrophysiology. The exam fee is a flat $990 USD regardless of HRS membership status, application type (first-time, retest, or recertification), or registration timing. The computer-based exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions administered over 4 hours, split into timed sections that cannot be revisited once completed.
