Arizona Motorcycle Permit exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
The Arizona motorcycle written test is based on the Arizona Motorcycle Operator Manual (99-0129, revised March 2026), and sample questions in the manual are four-option multiple choice. ADOT MVD does not publish the item format, number of questions, time limit or passing score for the test. This portal's practice set has 50 questions; its length and timing are our own design, not the MVD's. ADOT MVD does not publish a passing score for the motorcycle written test, so this guide does not state one. The practice set here is a study tool, not a prediction of your result. The ADOT pages did not list a fee for the motorcycle written test or permit, so none is quoted; check the MVD fee schedule on azdot.gov. The content outline spreads questions across 9 areas; the largest are SEE, Intersections and Increasing Conspicuity (15.0%); Crash Avoidance, Dangerous Surfaces and Mechanical Problems (15.0%); Basic Vehicle Control: Body Position, Shifting, Braking and Turning (13.0%). The full list of areas and weights is on the portal exam page. ADOT lists age 16 for a Class M license; applicants under 18 must hold an Arizona instruction permit for six months and show approved rider training or parental certification of practice; third-party sources give 15 years 6 months for the permit.
