The Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) exam is administered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). Eligibility requires three years of experience in construction safety, with at least 35% of your job duties requiring technical skill and knowledge in safety, health, and environment (SH&E) work. BCSP charges a $140 application fee plus a $300 examination fee (a $550 exam / $676 combined bundle rate is also offered); both the application and exam fee are non-refundable. Once your application is approved, you have one year to sit for any purchased exam authorization. On exam day, candidates get 4 hours for 200 multiple-choice questions delivered via computer at a Pearson VUE test center, spanning four domains weighted from Hazard and Risk Identification and Control (36.6%, the heaviest) down to Emergency Preparedness, Incident Investigation, and Response (19.9%, the lightest). Official results are available immediately after the exam is submitted.
