Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) — IAPP

The IAPP Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) exam covers the foundations of AI governance, how laws, standards and frameworks such as the EU AI Act and NIST AI RMF apply to AI, and how to govern AI development, deployment and use. As AI regulation expands, AIGP offers a vendor-neutral way to demonstrate governance expertise. SummitCert's portal helps you prepare with scenario-based practice questions and explanations, flashcards, framework diagrams and a timed mock exam built around the four domains.

AIGP exam requirements & cost

Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.

Eligibility
No prerequisites — open to professionals from any background, though IAPP writes the exam assuming familiarity with AI governance concepts (the AIGP Body of Knowledge, v2.1, effective February 2, 2026)
Real exam cost
$649 (IAPP member) or $799 (non-member); an annual IAPP professional membership runs $295 separately and includes study resources plus certification-maintenance-fee coverage
Format
100 questions · 2 hours 45 minutes (165 minutes), plus a 15-minute break · scaled score, 300 out of a 100-500 range to pass

The Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) credential is issued by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) — the same body behind the CIPP/CIPT/CIPM privacy certifications — and launched April 2, 2024 as the first vendor-neutral, cross-industry certification focused specifically on governing AI systems rather than building or securing them. There are no prerequisites: anyone can register regardless of prior privacy, legal, or technical background, though the exam is written assuming familiarity with the AIGP Body of Knowledge (currently version 2.1, effective February 2, 2026). The exam costs $649 for IAPP members or $799 for non-members; IAPP's own annual professional membership is a separate $295 and bundles in study resources, the Body of Knowledge document, and certification-maintenance-fee coverage, which is why many candidates buy the membership rather than pay the higher non-member exam price outright. The exam itself runs 100 questions over 2 hours 45 minutes with a built-in 15-minute break, and candidates have up to one year from purchase to actually sit for it. Scoring is scaled (a raw count of correct answers converted onto a common 100-500 scale to account for slight differences in difficulty between exam forms) with 300 as the passing mark — IAPP is explicit that 300 does not represent a flat 60%, and there's no separate pass/fail requirement for individual sections. Once earned, the credential is valid for two years, renewed via 20 continuing education credits aligned to the AIGP Body of Knowledge plus a maintenance fee (covered for members through their membership).

Common questions

No — IAPP sets no prerequisites at all for the AIGP exam.
