The Pennsylvania motorcycle knowledge test is the multiple-choice test given at a PennDOT Driver License Center for the Class M learner's permit, with questions based on the Motorcycle Operator's Manual (PUB 147). The permit costs $12 and is valid for a year, but PennDOT does not publish the number of questions or the passing score. Pennsylvania Motorcycle Permit exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
The Class M learner's permit costs $12, is valid for one year, and requires passing the motorcycle knowledge test (PennDOT). You can apply for a permit up to three times in five years, with a limit of four permits, and must pass the knowledge test each time. PennDOT does not publish the number of questions or the passing score; this portal's practice set has 25 questions, which is our own design. PennDOT does not publish a passing score for the motorcycle knowledge test, so this guide does not state one. The practice set here is a study tool, not a prediction of your result. PennDOT lists the Class M learner's permit at $12, valid for a year; the official pages gave no separate knowledge test fee, so check PennDOT's payments and fees page. The content outline spreads questions across 8 areas; the largest are Crash Avoidance, Dangerous Surfaces and Mechanical Problems (20.0%); SEE, Intersections and Increasing Conspicuity (18.0%); Protective Gear, Motorcycle Familiarity and Pre-Ride Responsibilities (14.0%). The full list of areas and weights is on the portal exam page. PennDOT sets no general minimum age on the page we read; under-18 applicants must hold the permit for six months and complete 65 hours of practice, and the Basic Rider Course counts as 15 of those hours.
