Florida General Contractor Exam exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
The Florida certified general contractor licensure examination is three separate examinations: Business and Finance, General Contractor Contract Administration and General Contractor Project Management (candidate information booklet effective July 2024). Each examination is computer-based, four-option multiple choice, open book with only the approved reference list, and all questions are equally weighted; unscored pilot questions may appear with extra time. This portal's 240-question mock exam combines the three examinations in one practice run; on exam day they are scored separately. You need at least 70 percent on each of the three examinations, not rounded, and must pass all three to qualify for the license. DBPR charges an application fee and Pearson VUE charges examination fees when you schedule; confirm the current amounts on the DBPR construction examinations pages. The content outline spreads questions across 13 areas; the largest are Business & Finance: Conducting Accounting Functions (16.0%); Project Management: Construction Methods, Materials, Tools, and Equipment (15.8%); Business & Finance: Managing Administrative Duties (13.0%). The full list of areas and weights is on the portal exam page. Experience, education and financial requirements for a certified general contractor are set under Chapter 489, Part I, Florida Statutes and CILB rules; confirm your qualifying route with DBPR before you apply.
