CPA TCP exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
The Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP) section is one of three Discipline options candidates may choose for the CPA Exam, alongside three required 4-hour Core sections (AUD, FAR, REG). To sit for the exam, all U.S. jurisdictions require a minimum of 120 semester credit hours (roughly a bachelor's degree), though most states require 150 hours for full licensure — exact coursework, experience, and credit-hour requirements vary by state Board of Accountancy, so candidates should confirm details with their specific jurisdiction. As of mid-2026, the per-section exam fee is approximately $268.59 (the NASBA-recommended national rate, which most states use), the same fee charged for Core sections — the Discipline you choose does not change the cost. Additional state-specific application and registration fees typically apply on top of the per-section exam fee.
