The IHMM exam specifications (effective 2021) and the January 2026 candidate handbook describe a closed-book, computer-based multiple-choice exam of four options with one correct answer. The passing score is 700 on a 0-1000 scaled score, set by criterion-referenced scoring. The twelve domains range from Health and Safety (10.57%) and Shipping and Transporting Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials (10.34%) to Remediation (6.5%). Unscored pre-test items may appear in some exam forms; IHMM does not publish how many. The passing score is 700 on a 0-1000 scaled score; a scaled score is not a percentage of correct answers, so the percent score in the portal mock is only a self-check. IHMM sets the application and exam fees and changes them over time; confirm the current amounts in the IHMM candidate handbook before you apply. The content outline spreads questions across 12 areas; the largest are Health and Safety (10.6%); Shipping and Transporting Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials (10.3%); Planning for Materials with Hazards (9.3%). The full list of areas and weights is on the portal exam page. IHMM sets the education and experience requirements for the CHMM; check the IHMM candidate handbook before you apply. The portal is a practice aid built on the published exam specifications: it is not a copy of the exam and does not predict your result.
