The ARE 5.0 Guidelines (October 2026, effective October 1, 2026) describe six divisions that are scheduled and scored separately; across the six divisions the exam has 490 items and 1,190 minutes of testing time, and the portal's combined practice set uses the same 490 questions and 1,190 minutes. Besides multiple-choice questions, the real divisions use other item types such as case studies, quantitative fill-in-the-blank, hot spot and drag-and-place items; the portal practice set uses multiple-choice questions only. NCARB reports a pass or fail result for each division and does not publish a fixed passing percentage. NCARB reports pass or fail for each division and does not publish a fixed passing percentage, so the percent score in the portal mock is only a self-check and not a prediction of your result. NCARB sets the fee for each division and you pay it when you schedule, including for a retake. Published figures differ between sources, so no amount is quoted here; confirm the current fee on ncarb.org. Eligibility runs through NCARB and your jurisdiction's architecture board; confirm the current requirements and how to open an NCARB Record on ncarb.org. The portal is a practice aid: it is not a copy of the exam and does not predict your result.
