PE Civil: Structural exam requirements & cost
Straight from the certifying body — separate from what we charge for the study portal.
To sit for the PE Civil exam with a Structural depth module, NCEES requires candidates to hold a bachelor's degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited engineering program, pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and complete a minimum of four years of progressive, verifiable engineering work experience — though exact requirements are set by the candidate's state licensing board, which must also approve the application either before or after the exam depending on the state. The PE Civil exam costs $400, payable directly to NCEES, and most state boards charge additional application or licensing fees on top of that. The computer-based exam consists of 80 multiple-choice and alternative-item-type questions covering civil engineering breadth topics plus the candidate's chosen depth module (Structural, in this case), administered in a single 9-hour appointment (about 8 hours of testing time plus a tutorial and scheduled break) at Pearson VUE test centers year-round.
