Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator Pass Rate, Format & Study Guide
A real reference for anyone preparing for the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator Exam exam — pass rate, retake policy, how it's scored, and a practical study timeline. This is independent reference content, not a sales page: everything below is sourced from Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator's own certifying body.
What the Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam is
The Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam is Salesforce's core administrator credential. It tests whether you can configure and maintain a Salesforce org: set up users and security, build objects and Lightning pages, automate business processes, manage data, and support sales, service and productivity applications, now including the use of Agentforce AI agents.
Why it matters
Salesforce administrators keep a company's CRM running: they configure the platform, protect data, build automation with Flow and support users. The Platform Administrator credential is the most widely recognised proof of that skill set and is often the first certification for people entering the Salesforce ecosystem or moving from another system.
Who this exam is for
The exam is aimed at new and working Salesforce administrators, business analysts and people changing careers into the Salesforce ecosystem. Salesforce lists no prerequisites, though hands-on practice in a Salesforce org makes the scenario-based questions much easier.
Pass rate
The certifying body does not publicly publish an official pass rate for this exam. Be wary of third-party sites citing a specific number here — treat any pass-rate claim you see elsewhere for this exam as unverified.
If you don't pass — retake policy
Salesforce lists a retake fee of US$100 plus applicable taxes, compared with US$200 for the first attempt. Salesforce sets its own waiting periods between attempts and may change them, so check the current retake policy in Salesforce's exam guide and Trailhead certification help before you rebook.
How it's scored
The passing score is 68 percent for the English version of the exam. The exam has 60 scored questions plus up to five unscored questions, and the unscored items are not identified, so treat every question as if it counts. Salesforce does not publish a pass rate for this exam, so none is quoted here.
Format at a glance
The exam has 60 scored questions plus up to five unscored questions, and you have 105 minutes. The passing score is 68 percent for the English version. The unscored items are used to pilot new questions and are not identified. Salesforce's exam guide aligns the questions to its Summer '25 release.

What each domain actually tests
Since the December 15, 2025 refresh the exam has eight sections: Configuration and Setup (15%); Object Manager and Lightning App Builder (15%); Sales and Marketing Applications (10%); Service and Support Applications (10%); Productivity and Collaboration (10%); Data and Analytics Management (17%); Automation (15%); and the new Agentforce AI section (8%), which covers AI agent use cases, permissions, prompt updates, troubleshooting access and knowing when AI is the right tool. Before the update the weightings were 20/20/12/11/7/14/16 with no AI section.
Eligibility requirements, in full
Salesforce lists no prerequisites for the Platform Administrator exam: no required courses and no prior certification. You create a Trailhead account, register for the exam and pay the fee. Hands-on time in a free developer org is the best preparation.
What it actually costs
The registration fee is US$200 plus applicable taxes and the retake fee is US$100 plus applicable taxes. Salesforce may change fees and policies, so confirm the current figures on Trailhead when you register.
Keeping the credential — maintenance & recertification
Salesforce credentials are kept current through Salesforce's own maintenance process rather than by retaking the full exam; confirm the current maintenance requirements and deadlines for your credential on Trailhead.
How to actually prepare
After the December 15, 2025 refresh, the largest section is Data and Analytics Management (17%), followed by Configuration and Setup, Object Manager and Lightning App Builder, and Automation at 15% each, so those four sections carry 62% of the exam. Spend your first weeks on those, then cover the sales, service and productivity applications (10% each) and the new Agentforce AI section (8%). Because the questions are scenario-based, practise in a free developer org rather than only reading, and finish with timed sets that mimic 105 minutes for 60 questions.
What's changing (2026)
Salesforce updates the exam alongside its platform releases. The latest refresh took effect on December 15, 2025 and added the Agentforce AI section; always check the current exam guide on Salesforce's help site before you start studying and again before you book.
