ParaPro Assessment Pass Rate, Format & Study Guide

A real reference for anyone preparing for the ParaPro Assessment (1755) — ETS exam — pass rate, retake policy, how it's scored, and a practical study timeline. This is independent reference content, not a sales page: everything below is sourced from ParaPro Assessment's own certifying body.

What the ParaPro Assessment exam is

The ParaPro Assessment (1755) has 90 selected-response questions across reading, mathematics and writing, and the test is 150 minutes long (ETS). About two-thirds of the questions in each subject focus on basic skills and knowledge, and about one-third focus on applying those skills in the classroom (ETS). The test is delivered by computer at test centers or at home with an online proctor, available seven days a week for at-home testing (ETS bulletin).

Why it matters

Federal law requires paraprofessionals who work in an instructional role to meet qualification requirements, and many states and districts use the ParaPro Assessment to show it.

Who this exam is for

People who are, or want to become, paraprofessionals supporting classroom teachers in states and districts that use the ParaPro Assessment.

Pass rate

The certifying body does not publicly publish an official pass rate for this exam. Be wary of third-party sites citing a specific number here — treat any pass-rate claim you see elsewhere for this exam as unverified.

If you don't pass — retake policy

The 2026-27 bulletin lets you retake once as soon as you like; after that you wait 7 days from your most recent attempt, and then you can retake twice more, with the same 7-day pause after every two attempts.

How it's scored

ETS sets no national passing score: each state or district sets its own qualifying score on the scaled score (the bulletin lists, for example, 457 for Connecticut and 460 for Colorado). The portal mock shows 70 percent only as a self-check. Format: 90 selected-response questions in 150 minutes. No official pass rate is available for this exam, so none is quoted here.

What each domain actually tests

ETS does not publish a question count for each subject, so this guide lists no per-subject percentages. The portal practices all three subjects, including questions on applying the skills while supporting students.

Eligibility requirements, in full

ETS lists no registration prerequisite. Determine whether your state uses the ParaPro or the ParaPathways Assessment before you book an appointment, and ask your state or district for the qualifying score.

What it actually costs

$55 at a test center or $85 at home, plus any proctoring fee a test center adds; additional score reports are $50 each and rescheduling is 50 percent of the test fee.

Keeping the credential — maintenance & recertification

States and districts decide how long a ParaPro score counts for their requirements; check with the agency that asked you to take the test.

How to actually prepare

Work through the exam topics one area at a time, finish with timed full-length practice runs of 90 questions in one sitting.

What's changing (2026)

Fees, retake rules and state qualifying scores change; this guide follows the official ETS documents listed under Verification as of October 2026, and the bulletin covers the testing year August 1, 2026 to July 31, 2027. Check ETS and your state before you register.
