The Virginia real estate salesperson examination has a national portion of 80 questions (105 minutes) and a state portion of 40 questions (45 minutes), 120 questions and 150 minutes in total (PSI candidate information bulletin, revised February 2026). The minimum passing scores for the salesperson exam are 56 on the national portion and 30 on the state portion, and both portions must be passed to apply for licensure. If you pass both portions at the same time your completed application and fee must reach DPOR within one year; a failed portion must be retaken and passed. You need at least 56 correct on the national portion (of 80) and at least 30 correct on the Virginia portion (of 40). Both portions must be passed to apply for a license. The PSI bulletin lists an examination fee of $60.00 for both the salesperson and broker exams. Registration fees are not refundable or transferable, and you forfeit the fee if you do not start your test within 15 minutes of the booked time. The content outline spreads questions across 17 areas; the largest are National Portion: Contracts (12.7%); State Portion: Agency Definitions and Relationships (10.0%); National Portion: Agency (8.7%). The PSI bulletin requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent and the required hours of education before you register; DPOR's page lists 60 class hours of Board-approved pre-license education (confirm on DPOR).
