The Texas Real Estate Sales Agent exam is the written licensing examination for the Texas real estate sales agent license. It is issued under the authority of the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and is developed and administered by Pearson VUE. The exam has two portions, a national/general portion of 80 scored items and a Texas state-law portion of 40 scored items, plus unscored pretest items; the time allowance is set in the Pearson VUE candidate handbook. You must pass both the national and the Texas state portions, which are scored separately. TREC and Pearson VUE set the passing scores, which were not shown in the content outlines we read, so no percentage is quoted as official (exam-preparation guides report 70% on each portion). The Pearson VUE sales exam fee is reported as US$43 per attempt by exam-preparation guides (TREC's fee schedule page could not be opened). The content outline spreads questions across 14 areas; the largest are National: Real Estate Contracts and Agency (13.33%); National: Real Property Characteristics, Legal Descriptions, and Property Use (9.17%); National: Property Value and Appraisal (9.17%). TREC requires qualifying real estate education and a sales agent license application before the exam; confirm the current requirements, including the education hours, with TREC before you schedule. This portal prepares you for the written exam; it does not replace the TREC qualifying education or the TREC license application.

Last verified: October 2026·Exam blueprint: Verified on October 4, 2026: the two-portion structure (national/general: 80 scored items and 5 pretest items; Texas state law: 40 scored items and 10 pretest items) comes from the Pearson VUE Texas Real Estate Content Outlines for sales agents (read directly; national outline effective March 1, 2025, state outline effective January 1, 2026), which also supply the domain weights. The US$43 fee and the 70%-per-portion passing figure come from exam-preparation guides found by search; TREC's fee schedule and sales-agent pages could not be opened by automated fetching, so confirm the fee, time allowance and passing standard with TREC and Pearson VUE.
