Florida PERT Pass Rate, Format & Study Guide
A real reference for anyone preparing for the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) - Mathematics, Reading, Writing - Florida Department of Education exam — pass rate, retake policy, how it's scored, and a practical study timeline. This is independent reference content, not a sales page: everything below is sourced from Florida PERT's own certifying body.
What the Florida PERT exam is
The P.E.R.T. has three separate placement subtests: Mathematics, Reading and Writing, each a computer-adaptive, multiple-choice test of 30 items (25 operational and 5 unscored field-test items). The tests are untimed, and the state-established college-ready standard scores are Mathematics 114, Reading 106 and Writing 103 (Florida Department of Education). This portal's practice mock has 75 questions across the three subtests.
Why it matters
Placement scores decide whether you start in college-level math, reading and writing or in a preparatory course first. Scoring at the college-ready standards lets you skip the prep course.
Who this exam is for
Students entering a Florida College System institution and dual-enrolled high school students who are not exempt from placement testing.
Pass rate
The certifying body does not publicly publish an official pass rate for this exam. Be wary of third-party sites citing a specific number here — treat any pass-rate claim you see elsewhere for this exam as unverified.
If you don't pass — retake policy
An older Florida Department of Education FAQ allows two attempts during high school and two during college, and local district or college policy can differ. Ask your college testing office before you retest.
How it's scored

What each domain actually tests
The P.E.R.T. is made up of three subtests of equal standing: Mathematics, Reading and Writing. The Florida Department of Education publishes no percentage weights beyond that structure, so none are quoted.
Eligibility requirements, in full
Under section 1008.30, F.S., students who entered a Florida public high school in 2003-04 or later and earned a standard diploma, and active-duty military members, are not required to take a placement test. Other exemptions are listed in Rule 6A-10.0315, F.A.C. Confirm your own status with the college.
What it actually costs
No student fee is quoted here. An older Florida Department of Education FAQ lists a per-subtest unit price of under one dollar that schools pay, and the current charge was not confirmed.
Keeping the credential — maintenance & recertification
This guide does not cover a validity period for P.E.R.T. scores; ask the college you are applying to how long it accepts them.
