Free NHIE Home Inspector Flashcards

The grade is inadequate and should be reported. The model residential code calls for surface grade to fall at least 6 inches within the first 10 feet away from foundation walls, because water that stays near the footing can saturate soil, add hydrostatic pressure and enter basements or crawl spaces. Recommend regrading, and note an exception only where lot lines or walls prevent the full fall.
