Write Gillingham with every letter the caller spells out, including the doubled L. The clerk's letter names settle ambiguous sounds such as G and J, or E and I, which are easy to confuse by ear. A candidate who writes from the sound alone risks a misspelling, and a misspelled answer can lose the mark. Trust the spelled letters over any impression of the name.
