The verb is is. The true subject is the singular noun box, and of evidence tags is only a modifying prepositional phrase. Cross out the phrase, read The box is stored, and the number of the verb becomes clear. A noun that sits just before the verb, such as tags, is not automatically the subject of the sentence. This works because the preposition and its object only describe the subject.
